Signs You May Need Air Duct Repair

Most of the time, you’ll notice something’s off in the rooms long before anyone checks the ductwork.

  • Uneven temperatures from room to room. One bedroom runs hot while the rest of the house is fine. That’s usually a airflow problem in that branch, not the unit itself.
  • Energy bills climbing without a clear reason. Air escaping into the attic means the system keeps running past when it should. That extra run time adds up.
  • Dust building up faster than it used to. A gap on the return side pulls attic air straight into the system before your filter gets a chance at it.
  • Weak airflow from specific registers. Some rooms have always gotten less air. That’s often a duct problem that’s been there from the start.
  • Rattling, popping, or whooshing sounds during operation. A section that’s come loose or a connection under stress tends to make noise. It’s worth having it looked at.
  • A musty smell when the system runs. Air pulled through a gap near insulation or drywall can carry odors into the living space before anyone notices the source.
