Signs Your Duct System Is Due for Maintenance

These aren’t always signs something has already failed. Sometimes they’re just signs it’s time to look.

  • It’s been more than a year since anyone checked the ductwork. In Las Vegas, a lot can change in one summer. Annual inspection is a reasonable baseline.
  • Your energy bills are higher than they were at this time last year. Rising bills without a change in how you use the system usually point to the equipment or the ducts. Maintenance helps rule out the ducts.
  • Some rooms heat or cool less effectively than they used to. Gradual airflow changes are easy to miss until the difference is obvious. They’re almost always easier to fix when caught early.
  • You’ve noticed more dust accumulating around vents or on surfaces. A return duct gap that’s opened up can shift how much particulate the system is moving through the house.
  • You recently had HVAC equipment serviced or replaced. New equipment running through old ductwork is a good reason to confirm the duct system is actually in shape to support it.
  • The home is more than 10 years old and the ductwork has never been inspected. Most homeowners don’t know the condition of their duct system. A single maintenance visit gives you a baseline to work from.
